Digital book of literature

At the end of every term, pupils aged 5 and 6 make a digital copybook with the application CREATOR BOOK.

Inside this copybook, they present all the books and tales they discovered

during the term. They insert the cover page and they record themselves and talk and give their point of view concerning the characters, the plot of the story...

Just have a look by watching the link.

Emergency aid

We are working on firemen and emergency aid. First of all, we are learning vocabulary, emergency numbers, and save gestures in case of fire. We are describing the uniform of the firemen.

School Surveys

This project has been a great experience and i will do it again with different topics and different objectives. it can be adapted to any age or any topic and makes students  really learn by doing.

My secondary 12 year-old students have enjoyed being journalists for a few days. In groups of four they wrote  questionaires on Lifestyle (diet, physical exercise and free time mainly). It took them a couple of sessions to elaborate them under my supervisión. Structures like How often do you..? How much  or how many? and frequency were the basic grammar structures and they provided options to answer. A great amount of vocabulary was also used.

I took them to different clases of Primary to complete their questionaires. They were very well organized in order to obtain the most accurate results. Everybody had a role ;one of the members in the group made the questions, another gave the options, a third one counted…It really felt like DOING SOMETHING important.

Now it was time to deal with stats. How to transform the typical 3 out of 25 eat fast food everyday or 23 out of 25 practise sport outside school..into percentages or other ways of saying. They did Mathematics calculating percentages. They learnt that 50% of students is the same as” half of the class” or that 95% is the same as “almost everyone”, 100% is “the whole class” and 20% is “just a few”. After calculating they created a Writing organizing the information in different paragraphs.

Then the it was timeto be creative  and they had to put all this information in graphics and make it the most attractive posible for a future presentation.

Last  step:
Teams presented their work to students of 2nd year secondary. They showed their posters and talked about primary students Lifestyle. It was challenging for them to speak in front of other students older tan them. The audience was given a short questinaire to fullfil after the presentation so that they also would get involved.

It also would be perfect if their works could be published  in a school magazine or similar.

Children's Literature Fair in Clermont-Ferrand

As part of our CHILDREN'S LITERATURE FAIR, our five nursery classes were involved in a project called EXPOESIE. This exhibition takes place every year in Clermont-Ferrand and many schools participate.

For our School Sainte-Therese, the aim was to create a piece of art which has a link with books studied in class.

For Valérie'ss class (aged 3 and 4) the chosen book was LE NID ( the nest). And each child had to create his own nest his own museum on each box and then share with other pupils.

In Stéphanie's class (aged 3 and 4) the book studied was  LE CHAPEAU A SECRETS ( the hat and its secrets).
The aim was to tell a secret before creating a hat.

In Laetitia´s class (aged 4 and 5  the chosen book was MARCEL LE RÊVEUR ((Marcel the dreamer). The purpose was to let pupils talk about their own Dreams and then create a special place for dreamers.

Concerning Sophie s class (aged 4 and 5) pupils worked on the book
AUJOURD HUI JE SUIS ( today I am...) the idea was to express feelings through mimes  pictures and words.

In Magali's class (aged 5 and 6 ) the selected book was AU PAYS DES MOTS PERDUS (the land of lost words). Pupils had to think about important words and had to explain why those words are important for them. Then They had to collect them.

Sign language competition

Our school took part in a sign language competition last week. Class III and IV students competed against participants from other schools in our city.

Their task was to 'show' poems by one of our famous Polish writers Jan Brzechwa. Children competed individually and as teams. There were beginners and advanced groups.

The objective of the competition is to make children aware of the existence of such a language and to popularize and promote it as means of communication. In that way, children become more aware and open to new possibilities that make us realize that we can always find a way in which we'll be understood by others.

German National Festival of Childrens and Youth's Movies "Golden Sparrow" in Gera

In June there is the festival of the year 2015. Our class 4c has taken a "godparenthood" about one movie in this event. The kids can watch the film before the oficial festival. They can discuss about it, they can deal with the content very intensively. The children really care about "their"movie.

Our film "The stray" is about a doggy, friendship, arms,... . The boys and girls have made posters, lapbooks, written textes, animated scenes and finally they've changed the very sad end of the movie. So our kids created their own end. They are very proud of it.

Nature in word puzzles

In March we organized an interscholastic competition in Bialystok.
It's called: "Nature in word puzzles". Many schools were interested in taking part in it, so we were happy we had so many entries.
Their task was to draw sketches where they had to create interesting rebuses.
Unfortunately, some of them are lost in translation.

1. Human evolution

 2. V formation - in Polish we call it a "geese key".

3. Babia Góra - literally "Old Wifes'" or "Witches' Mountain".

4. Cerebral cortex - there is one word in Polish for cortex and tree bark
