Learn to Learn activities for different purposes
LearnToLearn sets are great and offer us a huge variety of activities that can be used for different purposes. In this post by Erich Kästner Grundschule, Janine was using it for developing spatial position in maths: Spatial position in Maths
I used the same activity for learning how useful adverbs and prepositions are for giving instructions to people.
The same activity but different purposes.

Our friend Elmer
The story of Elmer is already one of our favourites as you can see on these posts:
Elmer and his friends
Open Day
This time, apart from enjoying the story and talk about the key message in it, we have used the tale to work with adjetives: comparatives and superlatives, both in English and in Spanish Language.
The first thing we did was to watch the video of the story and to look for adjectives.
Then, they created very nice and different versions of Elmer. Some of them even created new friends and a brother called Tuticolor!
Then, we set them on the blackboard and they had to write sentences comparing them:
Here you have some examples. Can you try to make sentences comparing them? We will be waiting for your comments! ( You can compare the trunks, the legs, the ears...)
Elmer 1
Elmer 2
Elmer 3
Elmer 4
Elmer 5
To finish, in pairs, they created a kind of leaflet analysing the elements of the story: characters, summary divided into beginning , middle and end, setting and they rated it.
For next time we will build Elmer with Lego, here you have the instructions in case you want to try!
Building news with Lego
Year 6 pupils have been working with how to write articles in a newspaper answering to the questions 'What happened?, when?, where?, how? who?' They built a piece of news with Lego StoryStarter and then they had to explain it to their mates. With this activity they developed their creativity, their knowledge about recent events around the world and their communicative competence.

Building Semantic Fields
In Spanish Language, Year 6 pupils put into practice their knowledge about word families and Semantic fields with LEGO StoryStarter set. In groups, they have built their own semantic fields: the supermarket, the police station, the zoo, the house...
Here you have some pictures of the process and the result:

Learning about communication
In Spanish Language, Year 5 pupils have being learning about communication. It can take place in very different situations depending on different elements such as the channel you use, the people involved, the message, the channel you use, etc.
We went to the Lego Studio and every pupil created a different communicative situation using Lego BuildToExpress sets. Then they explained their mates what they had built. Even the shyest pupils explained it!

Here you have a video to see how concentrated they were building their models.
