WARSAW MERMAID LEGEND

 Primary School "Ignoto Militi"

Saronno - Varese

Italy

Classrooms V A and V B

WARSAW MERMAID LEGEND

Students have listened to the Polish legend about a Warsaw Mermaid.

They have identified the main characters.

They have created a legend scene with a paper mosaic.

They have cut some coloured sheets in different sizes.

According the legend, a Mermaid swimming in the sea stopped on the riverbank near the Old Town rest.

She liked this place and she decided to stay.

A local fisherman living nearby noticed her...

Later, a rich merchant trapped the Mermaid and he imprisoned her in a wooden hut.

A young fisherman heard Mermaid's cry and with his mates released her .

The Mermaid promised them to help whenever it would be needed.

Ever since, the Mermaid, armed with sword and shield, has been ready to help and protect the city and its citizens.

King Magnus is in the castle

He is sad because people have no food.

The dragon is outside the castle.

King Magnus and Wizard Lucian are talking about what can they do.

At the castle there is Princess Miranda, too. She looks at a picture and she inquires after it.
Twelve years ago the dragon kidnapped the king's son. She is very sad about the prince.

Princess Miranda can hear the king and his wizard; they read there is a magic sword in the North of England: the Sword of Pendragon.

But there is a problem: only the hands of the  King's son can pull out the Sword of Pendragon.
Miranda can get the Sword.

That night she leaves the castle.

Descriptions with Lego "learn to learn"

In year to we practice a lot of descriptions and recipies at the moment.
The "learn to learn"-set is really good to describe a building instruction to a partner. The children sit "back to back" and one children ist discribing and the other children needs to put the right bricks at the right place. Afterwards the children checked the results and gave eachother some advices for discribing.

It was really brilliant that they saw their results of their discription so closely afterwards and realized their mistakes by their own.

Learning how to describe

I know that most of you already know this activity: using Lego Minifigures, Playmobil, Pinypon or any other little 'people' to learn how to describe people. My pupils were so proud of their creations that I wanted to post them. Here you have some examples:

Congratulations to my pupils for such a nice job!
