MULTIPLICATION CHALLENGE

After we worked on the technic of multiplication, we went on with the multiplication tables by using the fingers technic.

We organized in the class a little challenge of multiplication, by groups of 4 or 5 pupils in a limitated time, and with the MONTESSORI maths apply.

Pupils had to cooperate and work in groups to solve quickly and efficiently the suggested operations.

The team which obtained more points became the winner and received the CUP OF MULTIPLICATION CHALLENGE.

Drama activity: Antigone

The teaching of drama in Spain has got a theoretical part teachers have to deal with, but, obviously, the most important aspect is the practical one. To make my students learn more about Greek tragedy in a fun way I chose to work with the play Antigone by Sophocles. 2 groups of 17 students were given a short summary of the play which they had  to illustrate with 17 photos. They had to act out the different scenes, take photos, edit them and, finally, upload them to a PowerPoint presentation shared on Google drive. At the end, text and music were added. To share the result with you all, the presentation was made into a movie. I hope you like it.

Learning German and using apps to create videos

My Year 5 students started this year with German as a second foreign language. One hour a week is not much time – but we have a blast every time we meet. This time my little ones got all dressed up to practice greeting using the polite “Sie” form. We ran around in the school building and I recorded everything with my mobile phone. I like to use Google apps or Magisto to make short videos. And, very often, it is not even necessary for me to make the videos myself – apps usually detect new material on my device and automatically use it to create videos. Enjoy!

This second video was created using an app called MAGISTO

Pre-assessment video clips with Adobe Voice

Before every assessment, pupils make a video where they deal about what they learnt what they have to remember concerning the lesson. For that, pupils work with the application ADOBE VOICE. They must talk together and focus on the most important points that have to appear on the video.

Then, they make a storyboard using different slides with the written text, sounds and images to insert. And finally, they work on their iPads to complete their videos. Once their task is finished, and when the teacher allows it, the video is published on our Twitter (@classeclements).

Pupils can have a look on it in class whenever they want with the code QR.
Pupils enter the code with the application I-nigma on the iPad and they fall immediately on the video. This is a very interesting toolkit because the child is able to talk about what he learnt, the main ideas of the lesson and he can value his work.

Constellation Art

Constellation Art

The children were learning all about constellations. Today they used an app called Star chart. You point it to the sky and it shows you all the different constellations. The children then chose a constellation that they would create in the forest using natural materials.

The children would then use Keynote to make a slideshow about the process.

A slideshow of their work.

Stop Motion Videos

Year 6 pupils have been creating Stop Motion videos with the App "Stop Motion Studio" (http://creatingtomorrowschoolstoday.blogspot.com.es/2015/04/lego-movie-maker-app.html) and Learn to Learn bricks. They worked in groups of four pupils and they had a Learn to Learn bag per group and a tablet. They made it in Arts and Crafts and the only requirement was to be creative. This kind of activity could be used in Science to show processes or in Languages to tell a story. Thanks Derpi for the inspiration (http://creatingtomorrowschoolstoday.blogspot.com.es/2015/03/lego-movies.html)

Stop Motion videos

Inspired by Derpi's short movies
http://creatingtomorrowschoolstoday.blogspot.com.es/2015/04/the-giving-tree-follow-up-by-derpi.html, Year 6 pupils are going to create stop-motion videos with Legos. We will use an app for Android devices called "Stop Motion Studio". There is another free app by Lego that offers you the possibility to add music, titles, etc., but it is only available now at the App store.

I will post the videos when they finish them.
Thanks to Joanna and Derpi for the idea and the nice examples.

Useful Ipad App for kids

Miximal and Drawnimal are two apps available on App Store. I have used Drawninal this week with Year 1 pupils and they loved it. Apart from drawing, we were playing to guess the animal and they were miming the funny sounds that the app includes. These apps could be used for Science as well.  Here you have some examples of their great pictures.
