Mother's day

 Thanks to  and Mecedes Delgado
for their ideas about Mothers' day! In Italy we celebrate Mother's day, the second Sunday  in May: on 8th May this year.

We talked about  the importance of mothers for the children and for the whole family.
We read poems in Italian and in English,

We created handscrafts:paper flowers and cards.

Moreover the students with the teacher of Religious Education talked about the Holy Mother : Maria.
We admired a very famous painting, exposed in Saronno for a short time.

It is a very famous painting because the teacher of  Federico Melzi, the painter, was Leonardo Da Vinci.

The Virgin of the Rocks (sometimes the Madonna of the Rocks) is the name used for two very similar  paintings by Leonardo : one is in The Louvre in Paris and the other in the National Gallery, London.

The  painting we saw, show Mary, the Holy Virgin and Child Jesus with the infant. John the Baptist and an angel, in a rocky setting which gives the painting the usual name.
After the visit, the children try to do simialr ones.

Art has no age !and chidren appreciated it a lot!

Lego bricks and Religious Education in Primary

The teacher of Religious Education in  Primary school Rodari, Patrizia Prada, tried to involved more chidren in reading episodes about the life of Jesus and the apostles.
The children read and searched information about Peter: his name, Peter (GreekΠετρος, "rock")[ also called Simon (CephasPeter.
The  Roman Catholic Church, Ortodox Church, Luteran Church and Anglican Communion  consider Simon Peter a saint. Roman Catholics believe that the Pope is Peter's successor. For this reason, he is the rightful head of all other bishops.
The children built  fishing boats and discuss with classmates about the episode.

They imagined the event and the meeting between Jesus and Peter.

Some children decide to use wooden bricks to create Peter and his friends' ship
Meanwhile I was writing the word friend's ship a dicovered the inner meaning of friendship! interesting! very intersting!
All the pupils were really involved.

We celebrate the birthday of the school's founder

On this day, 179 years ago, the founder of the religious congregation Hermanas Josefino Trinitarias, to which our school belongs,  was born. We have carried out several activities to conmemorate this date. First, in our classrooms, we have watched a video about Padre Eladio and his time. Then, we decided that students in year 5 and year 2 worked together.  It was funny: there were three couples of brothers and sisters working together:

They talked about what they  knew and shared information.

Then, in pairs, they used BUILD TO EXPRESS to represent  important scenes in the life of Padre Eladio.

You can see here the results.

We have really enjoyed working together! It was a great experience mixing older and younger students in order to exchange information and then cooperate to build something together. We must use this way of of working more often!

The camp of Abram's family

The teacher of catholic religion at school reads aloud to children the history of Abram, a patriarch of the bible.

Abram answered to the calling of God and he traveled in the desert to join the land of Canaan.
So the pupils has a good idea: why not build the camp of Abram's family with lego bricks?

The students has built a big tent where Abram receives the visit of strange characters. They are directed by God to make known God's will.

Abram offers bread, meat and vegetables on his beutiful and coloured carpet.
All around there are ships, dogs, camels and other tents.
