The Mermaid Of Warsaw

http://creatingtomorrowschoolstoday.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/the-legend-of-mermaid-of-warsaw.html

Our children have enjoyed learning all about the legend of The Mermaid Of Warsaw.

We built her out of clay.

We drew her using pastels and coloured pencils.

We built her out of Lego and created a puppet show to re-tell the story.

Our new Erasmus+ classroom display!

Full size posters are in the library for the whole school to access, but we now have our very own display in the classroom.

Artists as Arcimboldo

The pupils of class 1st have observed Arcimboldo 's paintings with fruits and vegetables. At a distance, his portraits looked like normal human portraits.
Spring, 1563 Royal Academy of fine Arts in San Fernando

Summer, 1572, Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, Austria
Autumn, 1573, Louvre Museum, Paris

                                                     Winter, 1573, Paris Louvre Museum

However, individual objects in each portrait were actually overlapped together to make various anatomical shapes of a human. They were carefully constructed by his imagination. Besides, when he assembled objects in one portrait, he never used random objects. Each object was related by characterization

In the Autumn portrait pupils find out the names of seasonal fruits and vegetables.

They have learnt the names of fruit and vegetables in English.

They have observed colors and shapes.

They have touched, smelled and also tasted some of them.

They have painted the Autumn portrait of Arcimboldo.

At least they have composed in groups their own Autumn Portrait, choosing the different elements and explaining why.

They liked this activity very much.

They already asked me about Winter Portrait. Try!

Sharing Practices: the world of chocolate

Before our visit to Wales from the 3rd  to the 8th October 2015 , The collegues of Ynystawe Primary school in Swansea, informed us about their school activities.

The topic they were working on :  chocolate.

From the seeds to the bars, form the past to nowadays.

We were asked to bring chocolates from our own country.

From Italy we brought Novi chocolate bars

and Perugina chocolates.

Our students in primary school started working on chocolate, too.
They collected information about cocoa trees and plantations.
They touched and  manipulated the seeds as the Welsh children did.
They tasted cocoa powder and used it as drawing paint or dough.

Our chidren tasted Wesh chocolate and saw photos about our Erasmus friends.

It was really a great work.  Crosscurricular activities with students completely involved in.

Thanks to the Welsh team for the warm welcome and the sweet school practice.
Sharing school practices is a way to know better each other and to improve our professional way of teaching.

Creative Curriculum Conference Cardifff

On Tuesday 28th April we took a group of children from year 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 to St.David's Hall Cardiff, to a Creative Curriculum Conference. The purpose of the visit was to present a creative workshop that would demonstrate our creative 'Leonardo Effect' curriculum to delegates from the Art Council of Wales, story tellers, Welsh Assembly government curriculum working party and many more.

The children were engaged in literacy, numeracy and art activities that required cross curricular skills as well as creativity and the power of their imagination. The Leonardo Effect, which is embedded within our school ethos and provision, integrates science and art and allows children to learn through experiential, creative, skill based learning.
