Five Senses

The 1st graders were asked to suggest and built things they can see, hear, smell, taste and touch. Later on the whole class used the objects to utter sentences.

Story of Basilisk

Once upon a time, in the dungeons of medieval Warsaw, there was a treacherous creature called Basilisk. It was enormously big, had bat-like wings, crocodile-like tail, paws with claws, and eyes that turned anyone into stone once it looked at you....

This well-known story was presented by our students of year 5.

Marketwives were boasting about their goods and Magda went to save her brother from Basilisk. She was all alone, as everyone else was too scared to come and rescue him.

Her bravery was rewarded and we all watched a happy ending.

Now, our young actors have just one more step ahead to become internationally known stars! :)

Cookbook

Just at the beginning of the year our fourth graders organised a delicious Polish lesson. They presented recipes for a class cookbook.

Next, they invited others to try their dishes. We could try such delicacies as tuna salad, spaghetti carbonara, fruit salad, yeast muffins and many more.

Everything disappeared quickly!

Let's make recycled paper

Students of class 4 have tried to make a piece of recycled paper after having studying the recycling in Science.
They could learn by an easy experience the scientific process to make paper using some old newspapers.
They have enjoied this experience very much!
The necessary equipment we have used: newspapers, water, two pails, a frame, a filtering mesh and a rectangular piece of wood.

At the first step we have torn the paper into small pieces and put them in a container.

Then we have covered the small pieces of paper with hot water and let them soak for two days.

We have mashed up the paper by hand a handful at a time aiming to get the pulp similar to the consistecy of watery oatmeal.

We have placed the pulp on the filtering mesh of the frame moving it lightly side to side until the pulp on top has become uniformly flat.

We have pressed down to squeeze out excess water using a rectangular piece of wood. We have periodically repeated this step to remove as much water as possible from the paper pulp.

The final step was to remove the rectangular piece of wood from the top of the frame and let the paper pulp dry near a heater for a few days.
Here the result of our experiment: a perfect sheet of paper!

Time to learn some new English words about recycling:
"Match the words to the pictures and to the appropriate rubbish bin".
"What's it made of?".

How light bulbs work?

In a lesson with our first graders we discussed current. How is it possible that light bulbs go on and off? Our children worked in groups to find out. The experiment worked!

It is said that "when it comes the Epiphany, it is time to go back to work!"

WARSAW MERMAID LEGEND

 Primary School "Ignoto Militi"

Classrooms V A and V B

WARSAW MERMAID LEGEND

Students have listened to the Polish legend about a Warsaw Mermaid.

They have identified the main characters.

They have created a legend scene with a paper mosaic.

They have cut some coloured sheets in different sizes.

According the legend, a Mermaid swimming in the sea stopped on the riverbank near the Old Town rest.

She liked this place and she decided to stay.

A local fisherman living nearby noticed her...

Later, a rich merchant trapped the Mermaid and he imprisoned her in a wooden hut.

A young fisherman heard Mermaid's cry and with his mates released her .

The Mermaid promised them to help whenever it would be needed.

Ever since, the Mermaid, armed with sword and shield, has been ready to help and protect the city and its citizens.
