Numerical Scale

This is a game of reflection which allows children to develop logic and sense of observation. It is perfect to carry out their first mathematical exercises. In the pictures, you can see how they work out different ways to obtain number 10 (2 + 8, 3 + 7, 4 + 6…).

All completely engaged

This is another simple dice game. They simply have to roll the dice, then, they write the addition or subtraction  on a paper and do it.  Simple as it seems, all students are focused and working with motivation. In the photos you can see how to use their fingers to the account; and on the last picture, the result, all the accounts that they did (voluntarily and without protest!).

Who is the fastest?

Addition:
Two students come to the front of the classroom. I roll the dice twice in the interactive whiteboard. The first one who says the correct result is the winner. We make two variants: one, watching the dice; another, without seeing it, just hearing the numbers.

Subtractions:
The procedure is the same, but this time, I say a number higher than six.  I roll  the dice and they  have to do subtraction.

This simple game motivates them much to do mental arithmetic.

Creating a new planet

In Primary 6 our pupils have created a New Planet. With this project teachers intended to develop their creativity at the same time they used English vocabulary. They have done it in small groups.  The first thing we did was a “Morphological Matrix”

With this tool we wanted them to realize all the options they had. Then, they started creating the planet with its people, transport, climate, houses… At the end they showed and explained it to their classmates.

One, two, three, let's play

Our main aims:
- teaching foreign languages and other subjects employing PLAYMOBIL, LEGO and SCHLEICH toys, which are top favourite ones among European kids /  insegnare la lingua Inglese e alter discipline con l’utilizzo di PLAYMOBIL, LEGO and SCHLEICH
- meeting the demands of different learning styles/ rispondere ai diversi stili d’apprendimento
- stimulating their own creativity / stimolare la creatività
- challenging all the students but particulary  the disruptive ones / creare stimoli per gli alunni in particolare per quelli con disturbi d’apprendimento
- developing thinking skills / sviluppare le capacità di pensiero
- improving the quality and efficiency of education / migliorare la qualità e l’efficacia dell’insegnamento
- integrating pupils with special needs / supportare l’integrazione di alunni con bisogni speciali

This project will consist of a series of educational activities designed to achieve learning objectives included in curriculum planning school, involving pupils of different classes. The goal for the staff of teachers involved is to conduct field trials, using bricks and various characters as a means to learn creatively promoting the individual and collective growth.

The instalment  of proper playing positions within the classrooms would allow the daily use of these teaching strategies and would enhance the autonomy of the students, who are to work in turns in small groups (2-3 children). The repository of materials with appropriate classification also requires the purchase of containers of different sizes and shelves.

Pupils are cooperating to build the logo of this project: everyone has entered their character, who represents  himself/herself  and has explained others his /her own choice.

50 of the best kid's books published in the last 25 years

Little kids may insist you read the same books over and over at bedtime (sometimes more than once in the same night), but that doesn't mean you can't stop trying to add variety to the mix. This new list, compiled by Reach Out and Read, a nonprofit organization that advocates for literacy, and book recommendation site Goodreads will help you do just that.

Goodreads came up with the idea for this list as a way to celebrate Reach Out and Read's 25th anniversary. Together, the two put together fifty top picks published in that time period. Whether you are looking for popular classics or a few unknown gems, you'll certainly find something great to add to the rotation here.

Prepositions and the city

Learning the prepositions of place in English is easier with the help of a monkey.

Then and working in groups of four we built paper towns for our LEGO figures. They were everywhere: behind, next to, under, in front of...

There were so many buildings to build...

And so many things to do in those buildings...

Our teacher told us that we would build a town with LEGO bricks next time.
