How big is your country?

Fifth grade students continue to work with Earth representation. Today we have actively thought about the concept "scale." To do this, we have invented our own scale.

First, we checked the size of the countries using the following wikipedia attachment:

Next we have assigned to the block of 4 of LEGO

the value 100,000 square kilometers, that is to say, a block of 4 is equal 100,000. Therefore Spain, with an area of 500,000 square kilometers, is proportionally equal to 5 blocks of four.

Finally, we have made comparisons with some of the largest countries in the world. The largest of all is Russia: 17,000,000 square kilometers !!! So we would need 170 blocks to be able to represent it. Truly awesome!

In this way we have very graphically understood the difference in size between countries. And also what is the scale of the maps.
