Addition using LEGO

Last week we used LEGO to build towers of 10 blocks high and then we used these towers to represent numbers (TOWERS = TENS, and SINGLE BLOCKS = UNITS).
This week we have continued working on that idea: we have used the towers to start doing SUMS, as you can see in the pictures. To make it easier, students were provided with 3 TEMPLATES where they placed the ADDENDS and the SUM. 
 In my opinion, this is a great example of LEARNING BY DOING, which in Spain is not very common. 
The typical way to teach this in Spain is working with pen and paper, in a very repetitive way,  and many students have difficulty in understanding the process.
