Pupils in monsters land

Pupils aged 3 to 5 enjoy talking about horrible and terrible monsters and they like being affadi.

To memorize the english vocabulary of the body we read staries we learn songs and we draw very strange Monsters.

Our Angels in pet shelter

 As you may know, winters in Poland are usually really harsh. Sometimes we reach -20 dgrees. Such conditions are not easy to deal with. It is very important to remember about those, who may not help themselves. There are many unwanted dogs straying around the streets of our city and in winter they are taken to the local pet shelters.

In december 2015 we organized a collection of pet food and all sort of things that may be crucial when taking care of our little friends. We are happy as their faith turned out to be very touching and we found many volunteers who also visited our little friends.

The Little Prince - so much fun with such a story!

Just before leaving school for winter holidays, Class 2 enjoyed their time talking about one of the most known books worldwide. The Little Prince for kids was the basis for some LEGO based activities for our pupils. ( have a look at this old post related with this one: The Little Prince )

Children showed how their imagination work. Now they all remember:

"It’s only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is most important is invisible to the eye.”

Taking inspiration from others

I Read the water  cycle  published by J.I.M.Merino. I took inspiration from that.My young children of 1st Class looked at the models with lego  bricks in the blog
Now we re working about different form  of water in landscapes :rivers, lakes and seas.
We read the book"the multicoloured fish" .
We observed different kind of  sea living beings.
The children  painted fish.

They made handcrafts with  recycling materials.

And they  discoverd the different  states of water.

Carnival masks

As it's Carnival time now, our students had an ineresting class organized by their teacher. To get ready for the party time they tried to create their favourite masks for a fancy dress party. They used LEGO to reach their goals.

Simple as it seemed, the task turned out to be a challenge. Yet, no one failed. The results were amazing and beyond our expectations.
Everyone loved the lesson and we all regret we could not take our masks home. :)

Animals, art and action!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, our school, Colegio Santísima Trinidad, is located in a neighbourhood packed with street art. In my opinion, art can boost students’ creativity in any subject and make more conventional activities more appealing. This is the reason why I made my Year 6 students create the funny cutouts you can see in the photos. In German class they were learning the animals so we went for a walk in our neighbourhood to create colourful fantasy animals. It was great fun for me and teacher Manolo to watch them hold their cutouts against different graffiti murals and shout: “Come on over and take a picture!”

I got the idea for creating these cutouts (made by my students and their patient parents) from a blog called Imgur. Later then in class, we saw all the pictures in a presentation and students talked about their animals (age, name, colours, place they live, etc.) and they handed in a short written work.

 

David Bowie

Our school, Colegio Santísima Trinidad, is very lucky to be located in one of the most creative areas of the city. Our neighbourhood, called “Plaza del Oeste” is a bustling place where you can find street art everywhere you look. Close to our school a new painting was made a couple of days ago – a tribute to David Bowie by graffiti artist Nego.

In class I had used a David Bowie song (Let’s dance) with my Year 7 students. They were very eager to ask questions about Bowie and his music and enjoyed watching videos about Ziggy Stardust. The activity turned out great and our visit to this amazing graffiti was just the icing on the cake.

In some way, this post is our own humble tribute to the man who fell to earth. I hope you like it!
