First Lego League Salamanca

Every year, FIRST® LEGO League releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic.
Each Challenge has three parts: the Robot Game, the Project, and the Core Values. Teams of up to ten children, with at least two adult coaches, participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project), all guided by the FIRST LEGO League Core Values. Teams may then attend an official tournament, hosted by our FIRST LEGO League Partners.

FIRST LEGO League challenges kids in over 80 countries to think like scientists and engineers.  During the ANIMAL ALLIES season, teams will choose and solve a real-world problem in the Project.  They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game.  Throughout their experience, teams will operate under the FIRST LEGO League signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.

On Saturday, February 25, one of the qualifying tournaments is held in Salamanca:

The stage for the tournament is a very emblematic building of our city:
 HOSPEDERÍA ARZOBISPO FONSECA.

LEGO and music

We created pictures of guitars because we really love playing the guitar and we play all the time:)

Lego and axis of symmetry

In this class we learned about axis of symmetry. LEGO makes it easy to understand and learn.
We worked in pairs and made exercises for each other. Some of us made verry interesting pictures to create mirror images. It was fun to do :)

After we worked on the technic of multiplication, we went on with the multiplication tables by using the fingers technic.

We organized in the class a little challenge of multiplication, by groups of 4 or 5 pupils in a limitated time, and with the MONTESSORI maths apply.

Pupils had to cooperate and work in groups to solve quickly and efficiently the suggested operations.

The team which obtained more points became the winner and received the CUP OF MULTIPLICATION CHALLENGE.

Politics and culture and LEGO

Fifth grade students are studying the Spanish political system and cultural features of our country.  To give an example to my students, I searched for images on the internet using the following search filter: POLITICS + CULTURE + LEGO. And images like these is what we found.

It was easy for them to understand that these images are full of cultural and polical content of a particular country, the USA. I asked them to pay attention to that content in order to create images in which that content refers to Spain. Here they are...

Work on a COMIC with legos

First, pupils started to work on comic, its features and its specific vocabulary.

Then, working paired, they invented a board of COMIC strip with 6 stickers.
They understood how a story can be sequenced in different scenes.

They also learned how to create a punch line at the end of the COMIC board.
