Climates of the World

My fifth year students are studying the climates of the world. We have seen that there are three major climatic zones. In the HOT ZONE, we find the following climates:

 EQUATORIAL:

 AND TROPICAL:

In the TEMPERATE ZONE, 

CONTINENTAL:

OCEANIC:

AND MEDITERRANEAN:

Finally, in the COLD ZONE we find ALPINE,

 AND POLAR (the one in the picture)

Wesołych Świąt - Merry, merry...

So here we are... From Poland, straight to Spain, France, Italy, Germany and Wales.

MODEL OF THE CLASS

Pupils aged 7 did a model of their class with legos.
This was a good exercice to learn how to navigate and how to be located according to the material in the room (chairs, tables, desk, bookshelf.)
Thanks to this model, children Could draw the map of their classroom.

Let’s Explore types of fractions with legos

Students of class 4 have built and explored different types of fractions using legos. They have visualized and represented proper, improper and apparent fractions.

Children could compare them changing lego proper fractions into apparent fractions and into improper fractions.

They have figured out by practice the possibility to convert improper fractions into mixed numbers, developing the number sense for fractions and exploring number operations with fractions. They have practised the ordering of different types of fractions from least to greatest and vice versa.

This lego activity has given the teacher the opportunity to introduce equivalent fractions with a tactile and a visual representation, demostrating the relationship between parts of a whole. You can show that 3/6  bricks in a whole are white, or half of the bricks are white. This means that 3/6 or 1/2 are equal.

While comparing the lego blocks, students could count the number of studs on each block in order to represent equivalent fractions and the brick colors have helped students to find connections among the fractional parts to make them equal.
Teacher has guided students in the activity asking some questions, for example:
"How many brick studs cover the whole? How many bricks by 2, 4 studs cover the whole? What parts of the whole do 1/4, 2/8, 4/16 represent?".
Children have broken up wholes too and put together parts of wholes exploring the complementary fractions.

Radio-night at school

Reading and writing is important for learning a language, but also listening is really important. Last friday to saturday two classes of our school practiced a whole night "listening" and had a stay-over at our school. A big german radiostation broadcasted a whole nigth little storys for children. After listening, we had prepared little tasks and games for them belonging to the topic. The big theme was "traveling through past times" - they really enjoyed working and listening and of course sleeping at school :-)

"Little Citizens of Modern Europe"

As you all know, our school is taking part in another Erasmus+ AK1 project "Little Citizens of Modern Europe". We sahred this idea with you on Whatsapp and during our project meeting in Italy. Our teachers are taking part in English languge and methodological courses in order to change the way of their teaching, make it more innovative and help our school become a really European one:)
In August and October we took part in courses in Malta and we have some new and fresh ideas to make our lessons more cultural and interesting.
